Upcoming Movies This August

As soon as the word "August" starts coming into conversation, sad thoughts come to mind. For some people it's back to school, end of gorgeous weather, or going back to a regular schedule. But for the movie industry, we tend to think of a slower season of movies: this year it is not the case.
Over the next month, there are several movies to get excited about. The first one is Detroit which opens on August 4th. Based on the true story of the Detroit Rebellion, this movie is sure to be action packed, especially with John Boyega (Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens) as the star. Rotten Tomatoes has it at a 93% as of today.
For the true horror fans out there,  Annabelle: Creation opens August 11th.  This is the prequel to 2014's Annabelle which was the story of the demonic doll found in Ed and Loraine Warrens museum. If you are not familiar with the Warrens, they are famous paranormal investigators whose case files have brought us amazing horror movies such as The Amityville Horror, The Conjuring 1 & 2, The Haunting in Connecticut, and of course Annabelle. Rotten Tomatoes has it at a 100% as of today. It is a week away from opening, but that is an impressive score for a Horror movie!
If you are a fan of horror, be on the lookout for our Month of Horror classic movie lineup.
A movie popped up on our radar earlier this year when a poster recreating 1992's The Bodyguard surfaced, replacing Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner with Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson. Of course with Reynolds being carried......like a baby! The Hitman's Bodyguard is about just that: a bodyguard protecting a hitman. A combination of Jackson's dry humor with Reynolds' Deadpool-like sarcasm will be a can't-miss.
If these three are not your cup of tea, The Dark Tower, based on the Stephen King novels under the same name, opens August 4th. The Nut Job 2 opens August 11th and is about animated squirrels getting into mischief once again. We end the month with All Saints, an inspirational movie starring John Corbett as a pastor who helps refugees.  This opens August 25th.
August is also full of events exclusive to Hollywood Blvd:
8th- '80s Movie Trivia:  Trivia nights have different themes every month and benefit Variety, the Children's Charity
26th- Diane Franklin - Live for screenings of 1985's Better Off Dead
31st- Murder Mystery Dinner paired with 1974's Murder on the Orient Express
