The Epic Conclusion of The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies

Director Peter Jackson’s Hobbit saga reaches its action-packed finale with the latest installment, “Battle of The Five Armies.”  The last film in this trilogy relies heavily on the appendices of J.R.R Tolkien’s “The Return of the King” to expand on life in Middle Earth.

Jackson first brought us Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings,” a three-part trilogy with one film released each year from 2001 to 2003. In 2012, Jackson took audiences back to the prequel with “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” followed by “The Desolation of Smaug” in 2013. Originally planned to be a two-part series, Jackson later decided to expand the Hobbit series by adding one more film which he first titled “There and Back Again” but changed to “Battle of the Five Armies” to more accurately reflect Tolkien’s intensions within the story.

To end the 13-year long series, Benedict Cumberbatch reprises his role as the dragon Smaug threatening Lake Town and its human inhabitants with his fiery wrath. Meanwhile, the Lonely Mountain comes under threat from legions of Orcs sent by Sauron, the undead warlord intent on ruling Middle Earth. But heir-to-the-dwarven-throne Thorin’s obsession with his treasure threatens his honor and forces Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman*, in the titular role) to make desperate decisions.

Will the dwarves, the elves, and the men band together to take back Middle Earth, or will they splinter apart at their own peril? Either way, Peter Jackson is sure to thrill the audiences with the usual spectacular battle scenes, fantastical new characters, and stunning CGI effects to beautifully illustrate this epic Middle Earth conflict.

On December 17th, see “The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies” premiering at 6:45 pm in 2D or at 9:15 pm in 3D.
